4 Day Training Course for Paint Technicians and Paint Applicators organized by IMTC - SSPC
A 5 Day extensive training course for paint applicators and technicians is planned jointly by
Indian Maritime Training Centre (IMTC) and SSPC India Chapter. IMTC has trained paint
applicators and surface preparation experts who regularly impart practical training to
applicators. The detailed daywise syllabus is given below. The five day course will
commence from February 2004. The course Venue is IMTC, Sigma Building, Hiranandani Gardens,
Powai Bombay.

TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME
Introduction to paint maintenance specification. Precautions
to be taken prior to painting. Storage and handling of paints.
Video on 'Coating Technology'.
General information about paint systems. Comparison between spray-painting, roller and brush
applications. The appearances and causes of various types of paint failure.
Video on 'Quality Control'.
Paint systems for various parts of any structure. Quality control and related equipment.
Video on 'Pre-treatment of surfaces'.
Introduction to grit blasting.. Demonstration and explanation of various accessories such
as high-pressure hoses and nozzles. Calculation of air consumption and its relevance to the
required air pressure and related equipment.
Video on 'Paint Application'.
Safety concerns prior and during application. . Theoretical aspects of spray-painting
technique, including common errors observed such as dry spraying, waving, cushioning, etc.
Methods to determine the right spray-painting equipment for the required job description.
Manner of operation and functioning of the airless spray-painting pump.
Maintenance of spray- painting equipment.
Demonstration of correct spray-painting technique using fresh water. Demonstration
of correct procedure of mixing of paints using a pneumatic device. Demonstration of
correct spray-painting technique using paints. Demonstration of correct procedure for
measurement of wet film thickness (WFT). Cleaning of equipment after use, with special
emphasis on the filters of both the pump and the gun. Calibration of DFT gauge. Correct draining
method of all components of the spray-painting pump, disassembly of the pump section of the equipment.
And Cleaning and inspection of the various parts. Assembly of the spray-painting gun - Testing of the
spray-painting equipment. Draining and stowage of spray-painting equipment. Safe disposal of rags and
